I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the many successful project partnerships that Union Hospital has enjoyed with Hammond Construction over the past decade. I have always been impressed with the expertise that Hammond brings to the table throughout the design and construction process. Your firm consistently has met our high expectations for timeliness, quality and cost efficiency.
Perhaps more importantly, Hammond has always respected the unique responsibilities which are inherent in working in a patient care environment. Your company has shared our commitment to patient safety, infection control and operational continuity throughout our projects together. While hospital construction projects are always challenging, I feel that the strong working relationship that we have developed with Hammond has helped us to anticipate and mitigate those challenges.

Union Hospital OB Nursing Renovation
PROJECT SCOPE Renovation of nursing unit
SQUARE FOOTAGE 25,000 sq. ft.
TOTAL PROJECT COST $4,000,000
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS Complete renovation of third-floor nursing unit, including mechanical and electrical and hospital equipment; External temporary entrance structure avoided construction traffic in the hospital’s other areas
Large projects present special challenges because of their scale. But the special challenge for this moderate-size hospital renovation related to maintaining full patient services during construction. Overcoming this challenge required a six-phase project approach, and the use of the temporary exterior access structure. Construction personnel used this structure to enter and leave the site, and to bring construction materials in and project debris out of the third-floor work area. Hammond Construction was employed as the negotiated general contractor/manager on the project. To maintain all hospital services during work, Hammond worked closely with the hospital to coordinate temporary relocations of the affected departments during construction.
